Hike & Snorkel Playa Colomitos

Hike to an enchanting cove and then cool off while snorkeling!  Heading south of Puerto Vallarta, we visit a fishing village surrounded by beautiful lush green mountains. Our hike starts by a river that flows into a small bay. Following our trail, we enter a tropical deciduous forest that offers many different flora and bird sights. The path follows the coastline at the bottom of the Sierra and passes under the canopy of beautiful Plumerias, Palms and Strangling Ficuses. Occasionally, iguanas can be seen running across the path. Inhabiting the lower regions of these mountains, just to name a few, are Red Foxes, Armadillos, Skunks, Raccoons, and Mountain Crabs.

Along this path, you may witness termite nests of impressive size and the unique and precarious looking nest of the Yellow-winged Cacique. After a nice hike we refresh by snorkeling at Colomitos, a beautiful small soft-sanded beach where we find many colorful tropical fishes like the King Angels, Panamic Sergeant Majors, puffer fish, eels, and many others. Before starting our hike back we’ll enjoy a picnic style lunch at the beautiful golden sand beach.

We will hike through the tropical jungle back to Boca de Tomatlan, over a photogenic wooden slat and rope suspension bridge, through the river.  We may also encounter a wide variety of exotic birds, butterflies, lizards, and tropical trees along the way. your naturalist guide will teach you about the natural ecosystem of Puerto Vallarta as you hike.
